Raksha Bandhan In Ancient Time
Raksha Bandhan is the festival of the bond of love between a brother and his sister.As Raksha Bandhan has many popular stories behind the reason of its celebration in the history.But do you know that Raksha Bandhan was also being celebrated in the period of the legends .Raksha Bandhan was called as a holy of protectiveness in that time.So here are some stories related to the legends time period.
History Of Raksha Bandhan
.In the Bhavishya Purana:
According to the Hindu Myths and Sriptures,In the Bhavishya Purana there was a big war which took place between the God and the demons.Indra Dev,who is also called as the God of the sky and the rain who was defeated by the dempn king Bruta.And then his wife Sachi went to the Lord Vishnu who gave her a sacred thread consist of powerful mantras and told her to tie it on the wrist of the Indra Dev in the Shravan Purnima.And Sachi did the same as told by the Lord Vishnu.And then the war took place again between the Gods and the Demons.This time Indra Dev defeated the demon king and recovered the Amaravati.So in this way a thread became the protective guard for the Indra Dev at that time.It is said that’s why Rakhi is celebrated in the Shravan Purnima.
.In the Vishnu Purana:
According to the Vishnu Purana,when the Lord Vishnu defeated the demon king Bali and won the three worlds from him.Bali requested him to live in his palace which was being accepted by the Lord Vishnu .But Goddess Laxmi was not agreed with the decision of Lord Vishnu to live in the palace of King Bali ,as she didn’t like that palace.So she returned to the heaven.After few days Goddess Laxmi went to the palace of the king Bali and tied a thread in his wrist so that she could made him her brother.And in return Bali asked Goddess Laxmi for a gift so She said Bali to free the Lord Vishnu from his request to live in his palace.King Bali accepted the Goddess Laxmi wishes and dis the same as wished by Goddess Laxmi.King Bali also accepted Laxmi as his sister as well.
.Goddess Yamuna & Yama Dev:
According to another Hindu Myths,Yama Dev ,called as the God of the death was not visited or seen her sister Goddess Yamuna for a decade ago.Yamuna was very sad and missed her brother Yama so she went to her friend Goddess Ganga and consulted with her about the problem.Ganga helped her by saying that she would go to the yama and remind him of his sister Yamuna.After this She did the same and Yama visited Yamuna who was became surprised and happy on seeing her broyher after so many years .She welcomed him with full of celebration and treated him with the delicious food and love.Then she tied a thread on his wrist so that her brother would be protective from any type of evil.Then yama asked her for the Gift and then She wished that Yama would have to come soon again to see her.At that Yama was became emotional and happy with the love of her sister and agreed to fulfil her wish.So this day is also celebrated as the Raksha Bandhan in India.
.In the Mahabharata:
Mahabharata is the one of the great epic in the world.In Mahabharata there was a great war which was being taken place between the Pandavas and the Kauravas.In which Kauravas were defeated by Pandavas.Mahabharat was held to established the Dhrama again in the World.
Before the war Lord Krishna who was a God ,made Draupadi as his Sister. When Draupadi tied the Rakhi on the wrist of the Lord Krishna then Krishna gave her the Gift that he would protect her husbands from every evil in the war.
While at the same time Kunti tied the Rakhi on the wrist of her grandson Abhimanyu as Abhimanyu had no sister.So in this way in the Mahabharata we could see the appearance or origin of the Raksha Bandhan.
.Raksha Bandhan-Birth of Goddess Santoshi:
God Ganesha who is the son of the Lord Shiva had two sons named as Subh and Labh.When Raksha Bandhan came then on the day of Raksha Bandhan the sister of Lord Ganesha came to him and tied the Rakhi on his wrist.On seeing this the two sons of Ganesha became sad and insisted the Ganesha to have sister who also could tie Rakhi in their hands.Then Ganesha agreed and created his daughter and named her Santoshi who was the Goddess of satisfaction.Then Goddess Santoshi tied the Rakhi on the wrist of her brothers Subh and Labh.In this way Raksha Bandhan is the reason behind the birth of Goddess Santoshi.
